11/26/2022 0 Comments Queer as folk castKameron Ross started his country music journey at the age of 8. BUT – what could have been a moment of disaster was actually a moment of triumph as singer-songwriter Kameron Ross continued his audition, singing acapella, and wowing every one of the judges. Queer As Folk made LGBTQ life seem possible for millions.Ĭan you imagine being on America’s Got Talent, singing your heart out, and then Simon Cowell cuts you off? That’s exactly what happened to our guest on this episode of Metrosource Minis. If you were one of the many who found a way to watch the show week after week in secrecy while your family remained unaware of your same-sex attractions - welcome to the club. As he’s sitting in a large circle of like-minded fellows, an “ex-gay” therapist - who appears not the slightest bit hetero and is partnered with a very butch ex-lesbian - chants over and over, “You can change, you can change, you can change!”Įmmett looks him up and down and whispers to the fellow sitting beside him, “I’d start with those shoes.” In one episode, Emmett decides to try to go straight. The show received the warmest possible welcome from the LGBT community for its frank discussion of serodiscordant couples (the negative Michael soon had a poz partner, Ben, played by Robert Gant), drug addiction (Ted had a rough bout with crystal meth), and even ex-gay therapy. In addition, the show delved into lesbian topics through a couple, Lindsay (Thea Gill) and Melanie (Michelle Clunie) who become parents with Brian’s. Subplots abounded, including an additional pair of friends, Emmett (Peter Paige) and Ted (Scott Lowell). The show revolved around an awkward friendship between Brian Kinney (Harold) and Michael Novotny, which was complicated from the outset by the arrival of the twinky Justin Taylor (Harrison). AIDS loomed large in the plotline, as most of the series’ run took place before anti-viral cocktails appeared on the market. For many, including Showtime network watchers who weren’t gay, it was the first attempt to show what life was like within the American gay community at the time.Īnd although the show was set in gritty Pittsburgh, much of the series was actually shot in Toronto, and became a popular gay tourist destination as tourists wanted to see where their favorite characters drank, danced and dealt with the many curve balls life threw at them. Now into the fifth season, I am a dedicated fan of the show, and will be sorry to see it end.Based on a British series of the same name, QAF ran from Decemto August 7, 2005. But that's okay, because this is television, and the writers are allowed to have creative license. Of course, it isn't a documentary of gay life in Pittsburgh, so of course there are over-exaggerations and the occasional predictable plot line or relationship. The story lines are extremely engaging as well, and I find myself disappointed at the end of every episode, because now I have to wait and see what happens. They have wide ranges of emotion, and though they at first appear to be stereotypes, it is soon very evident that each one has plenty of flaws. The characters are all three-dimensional, and very strongly played by their respective actors. I like how the character's issues are never resolved in one episode, and how the actions of one have some effect on the other main characters of the series. But in this show, I discovered some things that a lot of television shows now seem to lack: interesting plots, three-dimensional characters, and most importantly, realism. I started watching the show because I was bored and I like Hal Sparks (Michael) from seeing him on VH1's I Love the 80s. I never saw the British version, though I'm interested to see if I can find a copy of it. I love the American version of Queer as Folk. 11/20/2022 0 Comments Beach life t-shirtsThat responsibility, given to Code Compliance last year, involves addressing any issues with vendors working at the county's public beach access points.įor that work, the department receives a $3 fee from each set of beach chairs and umbrellas rented and set up on the public beaches by the 21 vendors participating in the managed vendor program. Irrespective of what form a family takes, it forms a basic social unit upon which societies are based, and can reflect other societal changes. While interactionism helps us understand the subjective experience of belonging to a “family,” functionalism illuminates the many purposes of families and their roles in the maintenance of a balanced society (Parsons and Bales 1956). Later in life, adult children often care for elderly parents. Families provide for one another’s physical, emotional, and social well-being. In addition, the functionalist perspective views families as groups that perform vital roles for society-both internally (for the family itself) and externally (for society as a whole). Family dynamics have shifted significantly in the past sixty years, with fewer children living in two-parent households. A family of procreation describes one that is formed through marriage. A family of orientation refers to the family into which a person is born. Sociologists identify different types of families based on how one enters into them. So what is a family? F amily is a socially recognized group (usually joined by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption) that forms an emotional connection and serves as an economic unit of society. Look carefully inside the housing (a flashlight might be helpful here) until you locate another small tab. With the spindle gone, you’ll now have access to the housing of the lock. When you do this, the spindle itself will pop out of its housing. At this point, you should be able to use your flat-head screwdriver to carefully push on the tab that’s holding the spindle into place. Once the spindle stops turning, you should find that the square tab within the spindle is perfectly aligned with the rest of the lock. This should be done by inserting the flat-head screwdriver (you may need to try a few different sizes) into the lock itself. Next, you’ll need to use your flat-head screwdriver to turn the spindle of the lock counter-clockwise around until it stops. These are the screws that hold the lock and the door together. Start by using your Phillips-head screwdriver to remove any visible screws from the interior side of the door. To remove a cylinder lock, you’ll need just a few basic tools: In just three quick steps, you can remove an existing cylinder lock for re-keying or replacement. Removing a Cylinder Door LockĬylinder locks are extremely common and this type of lock is still relatively simple to remove. Read more about the Best Type of Lock for Your Door. Step 6: Remove Remaining Doorknobįinally, grab the remaining exterior doorknob and pull. Once completed, remove the latch altogether. Move on over to the faceplate now and unscrew that. Pick up your Philips-head screwdriver once more and loosen these screws. Now that you’ve removed the decorative rose plate, the interior rose plate (with screws) should be exposed. Usually, there is a small slot on the rose plate that allows you to do this. The best way to do this is to use a small, flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry the rose plate away from the door. Next, you’ll need to remove the rose plate. At this point, the interior knob should release from the door easily. Push your chosen tool into the hole and depress the button. Now that you’ve located the slot, you’ll need a flat-head screwdriver (or a small pin, paper clip, or nail) to press the release button inside of the slot (these tend to be very small). If you don’t see the hole, try turning the knob to either side until you can locate it. This is usually a small, rectangular hole. You can find the slot on the shank of the inside knob (the one you use to lock the door). Removing a Doorknob with No Visible ScrewsĬan’t find any visible screws on your doorknob? Step 1: Locate the SlotĪll knob locks have what’s known as a slot with a latch this is what holds the knob in place. Once you’ve removed the screws from the faceplate, simply grab the latch and pull the entire thing out. Pick up the Phillips-head screwdriver again and start unscrewing the two screws located on the faceplate. Once you’ve unscrewed those screws, you should be able to simply remove the interior and exterior doorknobs. Grab the Phillips-head screwdriver and start unscrewing the two visible screws. If your doorknob has visible screws, your job will be easy. If it does have exposed screws, these should be on the interior knob (the one you use to lock the door). The first step is determining whether your doorknob has visible screws on the rose plate. To remove your knob door lock, you’ll need to start by making sure you have the right tools for the job: Sometimes, knob door locks will also be used (along with a deadbolt) for an exterior door, but they are not recommended as the primary lock for any exterior door due to how easily they can be removed or forced. Most commonly, these are found on interior doors within a home. Removing a Knob Door Lock (With or Without Visible Screws)Ī knob door lock refers to a door turn-knob that has the lock built right in. Read on to learn how to remove the knob, cylinder, and mortise locks. With the right tools in hand and clear instructions, removing a door lock is an easy DIY task. Whether you want to replace a lock altogether or you need to remove a lock to make a repair, removing a residential door lock is something you can easily do yourself. Category: Locks & Keys Author: Chris Strauss How To Remove a Door Lock at Home The easy exercises that figure in each chapter help listeners experience the ideas that Singer presents. Throughout, the book maintains a light and engaging tone, free from heavy dogma and prescriptive religious references. And finally, in part five, Singer returns to daily life and the pursuit of unconditional happiness. Enlightenment, the embrace of universal consciousness, is the subject of part four. Ways to overcome tendencies to close down to the rest of the world are the subject of part three. Part two examines the experience of energy as it flows through us and works to show listeners how to open their hearts to the energy of experience that permeates their lives. In part one, Singer examines the notion of self and the inner dialogue we all live with. By tapping into traditions of meditation and mindfulness, Singer shows how the development of consciousness can enable us all to dwell in the present moment and let go of painful thoughts and memories that keep us from achieving happiness and self-realization.The Untethered Soul offers a frank and friendly discussion of consciousness and how we can develop it. A short but w lovely book for fans of both authors, but also a lot of insight into freedom of speach, creativity and The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself BY Michael A. Singer explores the question of who we are and arrives at the conclusion that our identity is to be found in our consciousness, the fact of our ability to observe ourselves, and the world around us.
